Conference and Anniversary Recap

Thank you everyone for your prayers. It really has been an awesome past several weeks! It is a great blessing knowing that people are faithfully praying for us. I have posted some pictures below along with captions, hopefully you will enjoy them.

God Bless,

-Ptr. Matt, Rina, & Liam-

The site of the conference was the Highlands Camp and Conference Center in Iba, Zambales. The 150 acre campsite was very scenic with plenty of open space and the beautiful mountains in the distance.
We rented a Nissan Urvan for our travelling needs both to Zambales and also within Manila. The air conditioning was really cold, so that was a great plus! It was about a 5 hour drive from our place in Baliwag to the campsite in Iba. We thank the Lord for the safety we had while travelling.

The conference lasted from Wednesday afternoon until Friday afternoon. As you can see, it was a packed house, there were over 600 registered attendees. The director of the conference, Dr. Edwin Tan, said that in the 13 years they have held the conference, this year was the best one.
Dr. Scudder was the featured speaker in all of the 3 main sessions and he also spoke in a special workshop. All of his messages were great, but his Thursday night message on James was especially memorable.
Ptr. Paul Julian, Ptr. Edwin Samson, Dr. James Scudder, and myself  (Ptr. Resty Rivera also joined us, but I believe he is the one taking the picture).

Ptr. Paul Julian was also featured as one of the conference speakers. He spoke from John 15 and he also gave a presentation about discipleship based on his workbook named "Talk Time" What God Desires: Answers For Life.

The conference was also conducted in the style of a symposium. After the different workshops, a panel of pastors would come and sit in the front of the room and answer different questions concerning the particular topic that was just discussed. These question and answer sessions were very instructive and a great practical help to all who attended.
One of the great blessings of the conference was that we were able to distribute thousands of books and tracks to everyone who attended the conference. Several men from our church also attended the conference and were a big help in distributing everything.
It was so exciting to see the newly translated Tagalog tracts being distributed. I am so thankful to all those who assisted us with the translation work.
The books that were given for free were both written by Dr. Scudder. Their titles were Forever With God? and More Than a Miracle. There was also a Tagalog translation of Victory in Grace's Soul Winning Manual that was also given for free.

Everyone was really enthusiastic to receive these materials! There is a real need for good, clear tracts and books (especially in Tagalog). Our prayer is that we can continue to assist in supplying  these much needed materials as the Lord provides.

Everyone received a copy of Ptr. Paul's "Talk Time" workbook.
On Sunday, November 25th, we celebrated our 10th church anniversary.
There were over 450 people who attended the evening service. What a blessing!
The theme for our anniversary was "The Riches of His Grace". I spoke during the morning service from our theme verse Ephesians 1:7. "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace." Our eternal salvation is freely given and freely received. This is made possible, not because we deserve it or have worked for it or have earned it, but only because of the work of Christ and the riches of His grace.
Were were honored to have Dr. James Scudder as our guest speaker during the evening service.  We are grateful for his constant support and encouragement.
We are thankful for Bro. Emman who gave a clear presentation of the Gospel in Tagalog. He used both the wordless book and the "hand gesture" illustration as visual aids to help clearly present the Gospel of Grace.

Our children's choir performed during both the morning and evening services. They all did a great job! They sang the Tagalog version of "Amazing Grace" as well as another song incorporating an acronym for G.R.A.C.E.

Our adult choir also sang during both the morning and evening services. We are thankful for their hard work and dedication  in practicing and memorizing the songs. Of course we are also thankful for the choir director :)
There were over 100 children who attended the anniversary service. We divided them into separate age groups and then had some special activities for them while Dr. Scudder was preaching.
We served free food to all 450+ people who attended the anniversary service. In the picture above, some of our church members who helped during the anniversary are relaxing and enjoying a break after all of our visitors had gone home. We are thankful for the many volunteers from our church who assisted in helping make this anniversary a success. Without them we could not have done it, they were such a blessing!

The day after our church anniversary we celebrated our American Thanksgiving. We were spoiled to have Pastor Paul help cook! We tried to have a traditional American thanksgiving with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, homemade pasta, pumpkin pie, stuffing, and of course turkey. Unfortunately, our two turkeys were kind of small and scrawny, but at least we were all able to try some. Thankfully though we had two chickens and some pork in reserve. Joining our family in the picture is  Dr. Scudder, Pastor Paul, the Samson family, the Luluquison family, and the Rivera family.

I was there. That was my first time ever I attended a big Baptists conference. I could say that I was very blessed to meet all my brethren all over places in the Philippines who came then. I smiled when I saw this blog accidentally, and it brought back all the good memories I had then. It was truly a memorable experience in my life as Christian. I have met some brethren there which were my room mates (no.12), which were bible students then. And now, by the grace of God, they are already Pastors. Just attended this week's conference in Iba, Zambales for the fourth time and it was a wonderful experience too although I attended for two days only (15&16) with my Pastor (just the two of us since 2012). Every Baptist needs this conference as additional encouragement to continue on contending for the faith which was once delivered unto us. You are a blessing Ptr. Matt. Thank you for this blog. Please continue on your journey here by God's grace. God bless you more! :)
